Distortions Unlimited is a world-renowned Halloween prop, animatronic, and mask manufacturing company based in Greeley, Colorado. Founded in 1978 by Ed Edmunds, the workshop has spent nearly 50 years "Making Monsters" for haunted houses, theme parks, home haunters, and Hollywood productions. They are highly regarded as pioneers in the dark amusement industry, famously shifting the entire haunt economy in the early 1990s with their breakthrough electric chair animatronic.
Ed Edmunds started making masks in high school. He later partnered with his wife, Marsha Taub-Edmunds, whom he met while she was completing her master's degree at the University of Northern Colorado. They created the iconic Queen Alien prop for the movie Aliens, custom concert stage props like Alice Cooper's guillotine, and have spent over a decade helping Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke set up his personal home haunt. They were also the stars of the reality TV show Making Monsters.
For ten years, Distortions Unlimited heavily anchored the local community by hosting Monster Day Greeley, a massive downtown summer festival celebrating monster culture, creativity, and special effects makeup. After a diabolical decade-long run, Ed and Marsha officially retired the beloved annual tradition, hosting their tenth and final Monster Day celebration in August 2026.
