Since that time, university’s music and opera programs have used the venue extensively. Also, from 1976 until 1988, Foundation Hall served as the primary home of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. Hunter Opera House, aka Greeley Opera House - Built in 1886 on the southeast corner of 8th St. and 8th Ave., the opera house’s stage was built by the same carpenters who built the Tabor Opera House in Denver. The theatre could seat 800 and hosted performances by touring companies of singers, actors, and musicians along with local performers. Opening of the Sterlin g Theatre in Greeley in 1911 stole much of the Hunter Opera House’s business and its spaces were converted to businesses, as seen in this photo.
