Bill and Sue Pfund
Bill and Sue Pfund were prominent musicians, educators, and pillars of the Northern Colorado arts community, who spent over 50 years championing music in Greeley, Colorado. In recognition of their extensive contributions to the region's cultural landscape, they were inducted into the Greeley Arts Legacy Hall of Fame in October 2025.
William “Bill” Pfund is a world-class trumpeter, researcher, and highly regarded music educator.
He joined the faculty at the University of Northern Colorado's School of Music in the early 1970s, where he taught trumpet for 34 years and was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1990. He holds the title of Professor Emeritus.
He performed as the principal trumpet for the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rocky Mountain Brass Quintet for over 30 years, and also played with the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own".
Bill served as the president of the International Trumpet Guild. His “Trumpeter's Pedagogical Guide was even translated into Chinese, leading to invited clinics and seminars in Asia.”
Sue Pfund is a celebrated painist, organist, and music educator, who has been a pillar of the cultural and musical community in Greeley for over 50 years. Known locally as a "heartbeat at the keyboard", she was inducted into the Greeley Arts Legacy Hall of Fame alongside her husband, Bill Pfund.
For five decades, Sue Pfund served as the principal organist at the First United Presbyterian Church (which was later renamed Cornerstone Community Church). Her musical mastery was a staple of local worship, where “her postludes, often a Bach Toccata and Fugue,” served as “a joyful benediction to every Sunday.
