Jil Rosentrater

Jil Rosentrater did not consider herself an artist, but her contributions to the culture of art in Greeley continues to touch its citizens every day. As Director of Cultural Affairs for 25 years, she created and design such events as the Arts Picnic, Cinco de Mayo Festival, and the Sister City exchange program with Moriya, Japan. A major force in the construction of the Union Colony Civic Center, as well as Centennial Village and White Plumb Farms museums, she helped bring into existence the Greeley Historic Registry, Greeley Public Art Program, Neighborhood Nights Movies in the Park, and the Library District.

In 2006, she became the Director of Art in Public Places for the State of Colorado. In this role, she managed millions of dollars in public art installations, including projects at the Colorado History Museum and the Colorado Justice Center. She served as the Executive Director from 2004 to 2006, bringing artistic experiences to youth in the Denver area. She received the prestigious Bonfils-Stanton Arts & Humanities Award (2000) and the Girl Scouts Women of Distinction award (2009).

To permanently honor her work, sculptor Madeline Wiener created a set of custom Colorado Yule Marble sculptures situated right at the entrance of the Union Colony Civic Center. In 2019, she was inducted as part of the inaugural class of the Greeley Arts Legacy Hall of Fame.
